The Launching Pad for Understanding Value-Based
Healthcare Delivery
Despite twelve years of post-graduate medical training, I have never taken a formal class in business, economics, or public policy. A physician in this situation may find it difficult to navigate the complexity of the current US healthcare reform debate. A lack of exposure in these areas may also make it more difficult to even understand current deficiencies in the system such as health insurance and hospital reimbursement. I recently had the opportunity to attend the course on value-based healthcare delivery at the Harvard Business School, which greatly improved my understanding of these concepts. Any successful attempts to improve the current healthcare system will require some degree of physician leadership, and this course offers a concrete vision for how our healthcare system could be better for patients while also reducing overall healthcare costs. I hope to build on this experience moving forward and highly recommend the course to anyone with an interest in healthcare.
