Few learning experiences in medicine have fundamentally shaped and inspired me like the value-based healthcare course at Harvard Business School has.

As trainees, our perception of and approach to healthcare continues to be shaped. Many of us enter the profession with altruistic and idealistic motivations that can unfortunately seem to be an afterthought in the daily grind of the modern healthcare system. Participating in the course has shown me, however, that we can and should strive for better for not only our patients but for the future of medicine.

What was perhaps the most exciting aspect of the course was the opportunity to study the cases of those who have doggedly invested in the pursuit of value for patients. Some had participated in this exact course only a few years prior. Knowing that the concept of value-based healthcare is being embraced and implemented successfully was truly inspirational.
